Welcome to Avian Photography: Bird Portraits.

The word "portraits" in the thread title refers to all birds perched, standing on the ground, walking, running, fighting and whatever else birds do when not in flight. And of course it also refers to actual (head) portraits.

Please post only non-captive birds. And as this is as much a showcase thread as it is a discussion thread, share only your best work.

It would be nice if you could tell us the species of bird as not everybody knows every bird out there. And if there is a story to tell on how you caught the bird, we would love to hear that too.

I'm starting with a classic portrait of a Black-tailed godwit, shot in Waterland, the rural area close to Amsterdam. Taken with a Canon R6 and the Canon RF 800mm f/11 lens, a lens that has been ridiculed but is actually pretty brilliant in the field.
