It's pretty common in the U.S. But this type does reduce the function and utility of the bed because it can get in the way of certain things loaded into the bed.
Based on a personal collection, the Haaning Museum just outside Copenhagen is fun because it includes cars you might have had as well as those you wish you had had!

a hard tonneau cover on a truck of that era isnt something you see very often though!
@Levina de Ruijter the advantages of a tonneau cover is it can protect things in the bed and if its a hard cover like in that photo, they can be locked. the DO help a little bit with aerodynamics so they can help a little with fuel economy but its typically not a huge amount.

many many boys, in the 80s had that Lamborghini Countach... it just happened to be a big poster on their bedroom wall, and not in the garage.
my poster was right next to Lynda Carter (Wonder Woman) and my Steve and Phil Maher K2 skies posters (Steve and Phil were the top US olympic skiers in the 80s)
they only have a more metallic green and a purple/violet color thats wild now. about 10 years ago they had some wild bright metallic colors in reds/pinks, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. kind of like the Rainbow Game colors
