In Alkmaar's Grote Kerk

Bob took some photos of a ship hanging in the church. This was unexpected. According to tradition, this is the scale model of a ship from 1667 called "De Ruyter mijn naam" (De Ruyter is my name), which refers to the victorious expedition of Michiel de Ruyter to Chatham. It has on it (which you can't see in any of the photos) paintings - on the mirror at the stern the panorama of Alkmaar. There are also four portraits of ladies in the windows of the officer's quarters. So if you go into the church, look for the paintings

There was a model of the church inside, and we also took photos of that.

not on display like this (i shot all of the artifacts in the local museum one year for an updating of their records and a new computer based inventory system).

this is a Copper Ingot. after the raw copper is mined (the upper peninsula of Michigan has more copper (or had) than all of the known gold deposits in the entire world) it is processed and smelted into these hunks. the gaps allow moist air to flow between them when stacked up so they dont freeze together. i think it weighs right about 50lb. (110kg)

i dont remember which museum (i.e. what CITY) but these are facial masks that were carefully removed at the spa they were used in, and made into a display.

kind of creepy but, modern art is wide open to interpretation

At the Vatican, my daughter had warned me that you can't go back and look at it later after you go to the Sistine Chapel. I knew that we couldn't go back later, so I took photos along the way, and our guide took us the quickest way through the museums explaining what we were looking at.
