SEATS look new!

the rest of the controls, not so much.

yes, i realize these planes are all nearly 70 years old (1957) but when i was in the Air Force, there was some program that Strategic Air Command (SAC) came up with called Glossy Eagle. it was geared towards the individual Wings to do as much refurbishment as possible to their tankers KC-135 and KC-10) and not send them to depot level maintenance for overhaul. there was to be an award given to the wing with the highest number of amazingly cleaned and maintained aircraft. i dont know who won. it was 1987 i believe.

i DO KNOW the Wing and Base Commanders were a bit cheezed when the Transportation Squadron couldnt get Armor-all for their staff car tires though! seems the tires on 32 KC-135 aircraft use a LOT of tire dressing! ;haha;

Yes, they look new, but are they seat covers. Does the Air Force do such a thing? Or do they replace the entire cushion as a unit?

oh that i wouldnt have any idea about. i was a Graphic Artist (not a GOOD one :lolz:) in that i mostly did viewgraphs/overhead slides and a Still Photographer. I only know about the MX side of things because i spent a good deal of time on the flightline and in the hangars shooting photos of 'Airman of the Quarter/Year' images for whatever Public Affairs needed them for, or some damaged/worn part or to photograph sequence for how to do something...

i do remember during Glossy Eagle, one of the maintenance squadron's commander (a Lt Colonel if i remember) came to our Graphics shop and wanted to know if we (the Artists) could repaint the entire instrument panel lettering! uh...... NO ;kukoo;:huh:.

seems he wanted all of the lettering redone to redo what had been worn out from all of the years of use..
