Apparently there's talk of a Canon R3 mark II being released in the first quarter of next year. At the moment it's just rumours but if true, then my question is why?

We currently have:

R6 mark III
R5 mark II
R1
R3

The R6 mark III with its increased megapixels already doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, but that's another discussion.

The R1 with its 24mpx is the ultimate action camera and Canon's high end model. The R3 also has 24mpx and you can't exactly call it a cheap R1, although the R3 is now available for $4399 at B&H. I just never quite understood where the R3 fit in. And now there's is going to be a mark II.

How will a R3 mark II differ from the R1?

Of course at this time there are no specs whatsoever, no idea what a R3 mark II will have on board. Just rumours. One of them is that it will be suited for multimedia. What that means is anybody's guess. But it would be in line with the rumour that it will have 50mpx - so not an action camera -, which would set it apart from the R1. A camera for studio work then? Landscapes and the likes?

If Canon does indeed release a R3 mark II with a 50mpx sensor. Would you buy it?

i dont know if i could afford to, nor would i buy, if i could.

unless something drastic changes in my life in the next couple of years, i think im at end of 'buying new gear'
That's me also. I have the R6 mark II which I love and have decided to keep. And I have the R5 mark II. The latter isn't being used so much now. I bought it for birds but not really shooting birds at the moment. I think actually the R5m2 is the camera I need the least now. I've starting playing with tabletop stuff again and the R6m2 is perfect for that.
